Title: Glass item in clear glass with applied amber prunts
Post by: Jazzy64 on July 01, 2012, 04:17:28 PM
Hi,

Please can anyone let me know who made this piece of glass and what it was used for?

The item measures 17 cms tall.  Age related marks to the base with a ground and polished pontil mark.  Towards the top of the neck, there is a diamond point engraved line and is markes 1/4 and what looks like lt.

Thank you.

J

it is for wine. the 1/4 L mark was and is typically used in Germany and Austria where you order wine by the achtel, viertel or halbliter (1/8, 1/4 or 1/2).  I think one restaurant in Austria is down a caraffe.
