Title: Small Bohemian vases
Post by: petet63 on July 02, 2012, 08:37:23 PM
Hi all, I picked up these two small vases today. They are 10cm in height and have a label still attached to one. Does anyone know the maker ? I have looked but not found anything similar in data available to me.

this particular shaped label does occur (more than once) on the Board's marks and labels site...   http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/index.php?cat=6  -  don't know if you'd had a look.        However, don't think it really gets you any further forward, unfortunately, it seems to be a rather non-specific label put on much pressed glass from that area.

Hi Paul, I must be missing something on there. I couldn't see it. I was using my phone so could easily of missed it. I'm back at home now and will take another look. Seems to be a lot of Bohemian glass without a maker. Considering the output that's to be expected. Thanks.

It didnt take long to find it this time  :-[ As you said, it didn't help  :)

It's not Bohemian glass per se; it's Czech glass. That label was the generic Czech Glassexport label using during the communist era for the Sklo Union factories. This particular label is 1950s/1960s. Manufacturing and marketing was all state run

I always think of Bohemian glass as much more ornate and decorative. Its one of those terms used to cover all items. I can now at least date the vases, thanks Lustrousstone. They were lit up in the shop and looked good. Am I right in thinking bud vases ?
