Pleased to find this at my local auction. I think it may be an early example. Well I am pretty sure it is but would love someone to agree with me. :)
Has rippled sides and is slightly wonky. Also has an interesting hairy inclusion!
-
I can't find the interesting hairy inclusion! ??? ??? ??? :P ;D
-
I think it might be part of MHs beard. ;)
You will have to trust me on its existence. Hard to photograph.
-
Hair melts and burns at a very low temperature. :-\
It's a slightly tall buttony shaped rim but I think it's just a variation. ;D
-
Yes I realise that hair melts I was only jesting. It actually looks like a grey splodge with tendrils. As inclusions go it rates among one of the more interesting I have seen.
A variation on an early sidestripe or a variation on a later sidestripe?
I thought way the sides practically disappear at the top was a good pointer to it being early as well as the button rim?
Also it is very round.
-
A variation on an early button rim. I'd think that's correct. Given the wonkiness and wigglyness, and the cloudy colouring it's unlikely to be a late variation tending towards a perfume-bottle-raised-rounded-rim.
I've never heard of anything about thicknesses of the stripes though - coloured ones are scarce, and...and... I don't have one with coloured stripes and that's all I know... mutter... grumble... ;)
-
How tall is it?
John
-
4.5 inches tall.
-
Bulbous and vertically challenged with a button rim? Has to be fairly early I would think. ;D
Any chance of a photo with some light behind it, maybe on a windowsill?

This one has considerably more light passing through.

It looks like the same colourway as this Tricorn bottle: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/EarlyMdinaGlass#5611797655179887666 and this Inside Out: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,27152
Not easy to see on either as the glass is thick and they both appear somewhat dark in photos. The 'lines' on the inside of both are green and purple - I can see the dark green lines on the inside of your side stripe are there purple ones too? You may have to get your eye very close to see the colour clearly through the dark blue.
Quite a rare colourway, I have only seen a couple of other items in it. ;D

Yes, it does have purple stripes. It took some really close peering but there they were!
That thread was fascinating to read and had some lovely pictures contained within. My want list has grown accordingly. ;D
I think an early fish may prove to be a major challenge though!
-
So for this colourway that is Tricorns, Inside Outs and now Sidestripes, there must be other shapes too.
Mark Newsum has a very nice early Fish vase for sale (he had two at the National but I bought the other one), here it is: http://www.newsumantiques.co.uk/page85.html
