My partner brought this home from a car boot this weekend and i don't think i've ever seen anything 'quite' like it before.
I'm not a collector...I just enjoy having coloured glass around the house... and this one has made me curious.
The longest arm stands at around 46cm high and the base is metal bolted through the base.
Anyone have any idea who, what, where, when?

I've not seen anything quite like it before either! I would suspect it might well be contemporary Chinese, although I'm not at all sure about the metal base.
Can it be taken off the base, to see what the bottom of the glass looks like?
Useful at Christmas time for supporting extra decorations! ;)

Looks more like a triffid than a kraken to me. Welcome to the board !

thanks both for the welcome.
the bolt through the base is very corroded (suggesting like my home made pots that the base isn't watertight).... i may dig out some wd40 at some point and clean it up....
christmas decorations...hmmm... the first of many uses i'm sure we'll find for it with 'vase' very low down the list.
triffid...kraken... definitely 'some' kind of monstrous beastie.
but definitely a 'statement' :)

Minced/grated raw onion gets rust and corrosion off metal bits. It might take a few changes of onion, as it goes all black and horrid, but it will get it off eventually. I succeeded in cleaning up rusted together metal screws and nuts of a deco glass lampshade - they are all working perfectly now. WD40 after the onion.
However, ??? corrrosion does suggest some age of some sort... unless it's a marriage of base and glass somebody's cobbled together!
