Thanks - the glass is over an inch thick and textured with an eye that is in the blowing not applied, it doesn't look home made but I may be wrong, if I were to guess I'd say Pukeberg or a german maker 70s or 80s.

Hi Adam, see i started with "i know nothing"  ;D so i am happy to be wrong too  ;D

It looks like the foil is coming loose or lifting on the side abit, its copper foil then lightly soldered over.
The hole in the glass is done with a diamond drill bit, carefully,as far as the silver around the eye goes i have not done that, but will be willing to have a go.

As i said its cute & someone with knowledge may say otherwise.

hommage to Alessandro Pianon for Vistosi? This was a bit of an icon for the 1950s. No flatbirds sighted as yet, however...

Adam20:
Do some research on this.  There is an Italian artist, Alessandro Pianon who made a whole series of birds in the 1960's with stick feet and I believe that this is part of that series.  I once saw one that was a cube, with added eyes and feet.  I also have seen when they are properly identified, they sell for big money.   Do a google image search for VISTOSI BIRDS and you will find smiliar shapes, plus a whole lot more.  I have seen a bird sell for $3500 USD.  Not all birds sell for that kind of money, but in a good contemporary modern glass auction with good coverage, your bird could be a money bird!

Yours is very cute, but I really do not think it could be Vistosi - the legs are attached differently - there are no glass " trousers" at the top. The Vistosi birds are well known, I think it highly unlikely there is an undiscovered flat, clear, trouserless one - far less two of them! (yours and the ebay one)

My opinion is that the legs are wrong. I would consider a Scandi copy. I could be wrong. But these 2 pieces, yours and the ebay listing look wrong for a Vistosi.

In looking back at the additional photos, I think the other people posting are right.  'no trousers'.  Just someone taking the idea and modifying it.  It seems that most of the original Vistosi pieces were blown.  I did not dig deep enough to see if any are solid glass pieces.

Thanks

I do not think this is Vistosi, someone paid a lot on eBay under that impression, although I see the bid started at 99p and rose to the high amount over time. This is far cruder than Vistosi, but still effective and I think perhaps 70s in date. I think maybe Scandinavian or German as I said before.

And also, quick lesson,do you say Scandi or such because of the style of bird, looks abit folk art to me.
I did say i know zip!

Adam re the glass used, this is a cheap leadlight glass  ;D

What a cute bird, but as everyone said, it is all wrong for Pianon. Still cute. But not $900 worth of cute.  :o

The second one to sell, which begs the question 'do they know something I don't?' http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&item=360474645159&nma=true&rt=nc&si=fQtHCFHVDV8vQifG9Wj2du%252BPs%252Bg%253D&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_3138wt_922

Well if they know it's not Vistosi (maybe they don't - but the seller doesn't claim it is 100%) what do they think it is?

Well we know they will be very unhappy chappies or chappettes once they find out!
