Title: Early Mdina Fish Vase

I have a vase which looks similar to early Mdina....it is 6 inches tlall, 8 inches wide, just over an inch deep, with a light blue core, dark blue wings which form a "V" back and front and an oblong paper label which says "made in Malta".  Any identification appreciated.

Welcome to the board and what an interesting piece for your first post.

Yes it is a Mdina Fish vase and an early example at that, probably made in late 1968 or in 1969. There are a few variations in the basic design yours looks similar to this amethyst one but mine does not have the 'button rim' that yours does: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/EarlyMdinaGlass#5473340076203262786

If you scroll to the left and right from that image you will be able to see a few more examples including a blue one with a slightly different shape.

A very good start indeed, welcome from me too.
I think flying-free's Fish is like this one.
Not that there are that many around - we tend to know each and every one, don't we, John?
Is this one teal blue, inside clear, inside cobalt?
It looks as if there are some ambery streaks from silver chloride in it, in the rim, too.

Well that confirms my suspicions - teal, cased in clear, cased in cobalt, with some amber in the teal.

I don't think we've seen another of this construction, have we, John?

Not in blue and not with a button rim. Same process as your amethyst fish - colour, dipped in clear, dipped in colour, another on page 22 of Mark Hill's book.

Lovely to see another variation.
