Title: 3 fish cristal st louis sign jean sala
Post by: micaela on July 31, 2012, 12:52:34 AM
Hi, Im a new user for this forum. And I take 3 cristal St Louis Fish sign Jean Sala. I like some information about this fish. I try to search in the intwrnet and not tell much. I find the jean sala work in st louis in 1930-1939 : With the designs of Jean Sala and Jean Luce, Saint-Louis joins the Art Deco movement and adopts transparent effects and geometric cut motifs and shapes.

Kind Regards

Micaela

Hi Micaela

welcome to the board. I've seen St Louis pieces signed with the Jean Sala signature before, usually high Art Deco vases 'cut and clear' with coloured feet. I've never seen these fish before, or rather I've never seen signed ones.

The older well established glassworks  like St Louis and Baccarat were a little shocked to find at both the 1900 and 1925 Paris exhibitions that they were out classed by 'young bloods' (Galle and Daum etc at the 1900 and Lalique and Daum etc at 1925). So they both searched high and low after the exhibitions to up their game and bring in new designers. St Louis had some major success hiring Paul Nicolas away from Galle around 1919-1921. By the later 1920s they were more confident in hiring in big names such as Jean Luce and Jean Sala.

That's about as much as I know.

your fish are wonderful especially with the great signatures.

cheers

Mike
