Title: Loetz Bowl W/Metal?
Post by: Ohio on July 31, 2012, 02:33:19 PM
Am posting this for a friend of my wife. She had two pieces that were definately Loetz, but I was not 100% certain of this bowl. Finely polished perfectly round (quarter sized) pontil & no I didn't get a picture of it as she was running late for MD appointment. 9" length, 5" width & 6" height for bowl only. Metal had no markings.  Comments, opinions appreciated. Thanks, Ken

Hi

very very beautiful but not Loetz

this pattern is most commonly attributed to its big brother down the road: Kralik

cheers

Mike

On Kralik-glass.com this  seems to be attributed to Rindskopf corrugated  :-\
or maybe it's just a very similar version?  I'm not very good at telling the swirly ones apart.

I think this link might work

hmmmm....

Strange I'd not noticed that one there amongst Rindskopf -well spotted. but I'm not sure it definitely goes with the other decors on the corrugated page.

But Passau definitely has it as Kralik -and although I can't say Passau is always 100% correct I think nearly all they put under Kralik is right. Sadly there are no examples at the Kralik museum- but they admit to be missing much.

Mind you all this is why I'm using terms like 'most commonly attributed to'

Appreciate the responses from both of you. Its a twin to the Rindskopf Corrugated on in bowl form instead of a vase. Metal work is also identical. Again thanks for the information. Ken

Ken, I'm not sure the exact id has been firmly clarified.  I think Mike was questioning whether that one should be under Rindskopf on the Kralik-glass.com site, as it he says it is  identified as Kralik in the Passau museum.  Maybe further clarification needed before a firm id can be given either way?

Thanks M. I think Craig is the webmaster for the Kralik site so I will contact him for more info.  Ken

I agree with Mike. The one on that page under Rindskopf is an oversight.  The long cabachon indentation on the piece is more indicative of Kralik production.  The primary differences in these decors at time, especially when coloration is similar, is that the Kralik decor has a smoother surface and the Rindskopf is much more textured.  Also, the Kralik version is not really found in most of the color variations you see on Rindskopf pieces.
