Title: Amber and Cobalt Shallow Bowl
Post by: Otis Orlando on July 31, 2012, 08:31:27 PM
Hi all,  Purchased this lovely bowl over the weekend and my first thoughts were, that it could possible be a Thomas Webb Bowl.  Not too sure now, as Kosta Boda used amber and cobalt within some of their designs.  I have not seen a Kosta Boda glass with the bullseye effect though, where I have in some of Thomas Webb designs, which now reverts my thoughts back to Thomas Webb.  Mmmmmm!  Any ideas?  ::)  I could be barking up the wrong tree. The bowl measures 4.8cm in height and the dia. 14.8cm.   The base is flat, polished  and irregular hexagonal shape with curved corners/lines.  Held to light it is clear to see how the Cobalt fades into the amber 1cm away from the curved edge of the top of the bowl.  It looks fantastic on display in day light or artificial light and is one of my favourite pieces.  Any help appreciated!

I could be way off here, but I seem to remember seeing some Murano bowls with that kind of dimpled effect to the base, possibly Galliano Ferro?

Yes Wayne is on the right track I think.
Wayne said "Murano bowls with that kind of dimpled effect to the base"
I have one in the more often seen Murano red & yellow colourway. The dimples are exactly the same. It's also a geode form with v thick glass sliced rim, typical of Murano. Peter
PS I would expect Kosta to be signed & re Webb see this helpful article by David www.glassyeye.com/glasspages/brit-webb.html#coin

Just found this one on ebay with Galliano Ferro label, similar dimples:

It's rather unfortunate it didn't come with at least one of the labels,  but yes!  that would be asking too much.  :( Thanks to  you all, for your attribution to this post.  I was barking up the wrong tree after all. ::)  I would never of guessed it would be Murano.  I have collected and identified many Murano pieces over the years, but this one had me fooled.  A lot of time has been exhausted trying to research this rare piece indeed!!  Thanks to you Wayne for instigating a positive identification from other members and thanks for the elimination Keith.  ;)
