Title: Glitterati advice needed - Mr Face Jug Pitcher
Post by: Antoinette on August 07, 2012, 05:03:49 PM
Greetings Glitterati

Can anyone identify this sweet pitcher I bought this afternoon at all?
Hes very "Pink" which makes me think he may be Czech and likely pre 1930 but ideas are always welcome from the forum!

I just liked him as a huge pitcher for the hot balmy days - or for Sweet William posys!
 ;D
Many thanks!

I think that is a Toby jug  but not the usual Whitefriars variety.

He appears to be wearing a crown?

Hi there thanks for your replies!
Yes he is wearing a crown - he has a look of the King of Spades in a playing card deck!

Relaxing under a parasol in the sun with him as a pitcher of Malibu & Lemonade as we speak!
:0)
I love to use my functional pieces!

Ivo - I see your Whitefriars connection with a but if t'internet research.. Though it's just his face not whole profile..

I'd be amazed if he were 1970's!!!
However happy to confide he was £25 and most on eBay around £30 so a £5 profit not bad! Can't see me winning Dickensons real deal though!!

 ;D

Hopefully someone will tell me he's 1890-1930 which is my preferred pressed glass era!!
But who knows!!

He is VERY pink not at all like my Walther/Sowerby peachy collections!!

Still a mystery it seems... http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,8714.0.html and comes in various colours shown here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5490 and are known in amber too.

Thanks Anne!
There's no makers marks obvious or anything - I have no idea of decade etc!!
He is a lovely colour though and has a lovely head of hair and quite a talking point!

They are gorgeous Antoinette! I wish we could iD the maker - datewise I'd suspect maybe 1930s-ish, but that's just my personal feeling - I could be out either way! :)

that green one on the right reminds me of a Walther Nymphen piece ...or something   :-\ hasn't there been a fish vase on here with similar moulding...I'm off to have a look.

Oooh you are making me so proud of him!
He's faithfully sat on my side table with a cooler pitcher of Malibu & Lemonade!
I'd love to think him to be 1930's as this is my fave decade!

The nearest colour is one of my Czech circular comports with a lady in the centre - a real pretty pink which sparkles in the sunlight!

oh...sorry I've just read the previous thread and Walther was discounted I think but not definite.

the lines on the forehead remind me of the base of this fish

I'll go and try and find the fish vase though.
