Title: Stunning green ribbed & knobley vase with metal base (copper?)
Post by: heartofsklo on August 13, 2012, 02:15:17 PM
A great piece that I had to have. The vase measures 21cm tall and the base metal looks like copper. The base bares no scar.

I have done a quick search on G images but the only return with any similarity was for a Loetz piece that had metal covered knobbles.

Found something similar here: http://www.whitefriars.com/isit_contents.php?ID=464
Attributed to Wiktor Berndt for Flygsfors.

Thanks NMott.

I have managed to find something attributed to the very same designer on ebay of a similar type.

I doubt very much that this was designed by Wiktor Berndt and neither was the one on the Whitefriars site. The maker is currently unknown. Some more examples here, likely from more than one maker I reckon: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,24466.0.html

This link shows a piece of similar construction signed indeed by Berndt and refering to a range produced by Fylgsorf in his name called "Tribal"

I think John's point is that it's not an unusual construction

It ranges with quality. Obviously shoddy examples have been made in Mexico in recent years; Quite good table items and lightning were produced in Spain in the 1970s, often in wrought iron but also in stamped plate. And high quality items from Berndt as seen in these various links.
I think we have an extensive thread with lots of photographs on this subject somewhere on this board.

With this green colour of the glass and the seamless copper base IŽm quite confident
it is a Driburg Kristall piece dating around 1970. A friend of mine, Mr. Baumann, has a
small collection of them and confirmed the Driburger Glass Museum has some of them
in their exhibition.
He sent me some photos some time ago, but IŽm afraid I canŽt find them at the moment.
If you send me a copy of the picture IŽll ask him if he remembers this particular shape.

Ivo -

This piece is of very good quality, great glass and the metal base is thick and well made, not crudely cut out. There is no seam visible on the metal whatsoever.

My guess is that my piece is neither a Mexican nor Spanish piece taking the quality into account.

It looks to be similar to the green cup with a makers mark at the bottom of the thread I linked to. I have seen this mark on several items in the past few years but am none the wiser, the Driburg possibility is interesting.

Very believable.  I have something similar which will be immediately relabelled as Driburg. The set is to show Spanish or Mexican production....

I had a talk about this mark with Mr. Baumann some weeks ago and it seems
the Driburg pieces are not marked. To his kowledge no other colours than this
dark green can be confirmed.
It seems weŽll still have to be on the look-out for another maker concerning
the pieces marked with that kneeling-rabbit-lady-mouse-thingie.

Obviously I didnŽt remember the facts about the glass colours being used correctly - sorry.
They produced in several colours - clear, red, green. However, IŽve been to the Driburg
Glasmuseum today and can confirm this is from their output indeed.  :)
IŽll post some pictures in a further thread.
