Title: Schreiber & Neffen posy troughs
Post by: mrs vulture on August 15, 2012, 08:13:23 PM
Hi, I bought this eight piece posy trough set at the car boot today. I thought I'd show it off because it really is beautiful. The straight pieces are 9 inches long (23cms) When laid out 27 inches long, it is huge. Each piece has a shield like pattern with a diamond pattern on the base. Its in perfect condition. I found them on Pamela's site as Schreiber & Neffen 1889 -1915. Thats a new name for me. I looked them up but the translation was a bit dodgy. Any info welcome. Very nicely made glass, vary heavy, very sparkly and bright despite its age. Thats a whole lot of glass for £1.     Regards Cheryl

Thanks Anne,   I've had a fantastic week car booting for a change. I have no idea where to put this set as I've nowhere big enough to display it. Might just wrap them up and have a peep now and again.  ;D   Cheryl

If it is anything like my dining table it is covered in paperwork, diaries, stuff to sort out and general 'OMG where shall I put all this we have people coming for supper!' stuff. :(

Am I right in thinking that AnneEB posted something similar to this?

And there was a bridge shaped one as well... can't find the reference at the moment.
I bet they didn't come in at £1 though Cheryl, great find!  :)

Ah but not lately Christine, it's now clear and usable again - for its proper purpose... eating off!  :) And there'd still be space for Cheryl's centrepiece!

Hi, I also have the Complete set of the Sowerby oranges and lemons. Paul kindly sent me the missing piece recently. Compared to the Schreiber & Neffen set it is very crudely made. The glass on the Sowerby is very uneven and rough (I still love it!!) whereas the larger set is perfectly even, very very smooth and nice to handle. So apart from both being posy troughs they don't have much in common. At least I have room for the Sowerby set  ;D    Cheryl
