Can anyone help ID this vase please. Its about 8 inches square and very heavy.

I have found a vase that has the exact same pattern , base and seams as mine. My base is cut and ground.

I have linked to a gallery pic, I hope this is alright. The same vase can be seen clearer on a flikr website. It really looks the same with a different shaped top ? ?

Just seen a great picture of the Barolac version on Ebay and it seems to have a lot more detail in the flowers and the leaves as well as being a different shape.
There are certainly a lot of similarities though.

Edit: On further inspection I think the detail just shows up more with the opalescence so apart from the shape they are the same.

T would say you had your answer

Good morning and thank you for your replies. My vase is as detailed as the Ebay and Gallery one its just not as easy to see in the frosted pink from photos. The pink has a strange sheen to it, its not flat frosted like my other glass. It is the same size and weight exactly as the Ebay one so I do think it was made by the same company. Googling Barolac vases brings up lots of variations with the same body shape just not my square wavey rim. Well solved until someone says otherwise then. :)

Can we have a picture of the base rim? It may well be frosted with acid, which gives a softer, slightly more shiny finish than sand blasting.

Thank you. I was just wondering whether it was Inwald rather than Barolac, but not with that base

Hi Christine,
I'm not sure I get what you mean here. If it was made by Inwald that wouldn't stop it being Barolac surely; in fact I think the opposite would be true! Then again, if it was a French market piece sold via Markhbeinn, would we still be correct in calling it Barolac? I am confusing myself now...
Anyway, re. the base, it looks alright to me. While we tend to associate Inwald with mirror polished bases, not all of Inwald's Barolac line is finished this way. I've had vases which appear early (opalescent and with acid-stamp mark) which have shown similar grinding to the base.
here's the bottom of a seemingly early rose vase for comparison:

If anything the square rim on the vase in question might be an indication of earlier rather than later production (the mould quality also looks good to me). I've seen this 11280F variant documented in the 1937 Markhbeinn catalogue (available from www.pressglas-korrespondenz.de) and don't recall seeing it on any positively identifiable post-Inwald Barolac, though I could well be wrong here and I don't have access to my reference materials to check at the moment.

You're almost certainly right. I was just wondering if it had the mirror-shiny base

Really interesting, thank you :)
