Title: Signed 'Gordiola Mallorca' old enamelled hand trailed plate amber flowers leaves

As per Ivo's post above it seems Gordiola were making enamelled pieces as early as the 1920's and they were signed Gordiola.  I bought this plate this morning just out of interest and to add to the Royo Gordiola debate.  It's old enamel I'm pretty sure.  The plate has a hand trailed thread running round it and it is signed in the middle 'Gordiola Mallorca'  :)

nice condition! The ones in the Gordiola glass museum are of lesser quality.

thanks  :) apart from a teeny chip on the rim it is in exc.condition with the enamels all there.  It's also slightly misshapen - a sweet piece.

I've just been reading about Gordiola Glass as I have been interested to know who might have enamelled my plate since it is signed Gordiola rather than Cirera or Royo as other pieces of Gordiola glass seem to be.

I came across this
http://www.mallorcaquality.com/vidrios-gordiola/

which seems to say the widow of Gabriel Balaguer (1855-1911) was Antonia Manera Cirerol (1860-1928) ran the glassworks for a while for her children on the death of their father - children being Bernardo and Gabriel Manera

I've come across the information that those pieces signed Cirera were by Genis Cirera Casonovas (source in link below).  I wondered if there was a link between him and Antonia Manera Cirerol.  I suppose I was just wondering as the signature looks to me like it could read Cirerol.

Does anyone have any links to Genis Cirera Casanovas/Casonovas to read up on as I couldn't really find any further information.  Thanks :)

Trying to date the Gordiola plate, I've added a picture of close up of the plate (signed Gordiola Mallorca) and also a close up of a turquoise blue goblet I had, signed Royo,  for comparison.
The Royo goblet looks to me to be very 60s or 70s.
The plate is difficult to date because Gordiola make similar pieces in that style over a long period.  However:

The enamels seem to be from very different eras as well as different decorators.
The enamels on the plate looks very old and is quite a 'drab' colour palate by comparison to other Royo decorated pieces for example.

I found a vase that I think is signed Gordiola - but I think even the enamels on that are from a different time period to my plate

Although this one looks very similar in the way the flowers are designed and also the effect of the enamels

mmm, searching in Spanish brought up this strange receptacle.
Which might put paid to my plate being old possibly?
Oddly enough it is signed Royo (I blew up the pic and it seems to be signed in the middle of the red flowers).  The colours and the enamels look quite similar to those on my plate.  It appears to be signed in black.  But it also is apparently dated 1977.

Hi All
I have been reading your posts about Gordiola/Royo with interest. I have a pair of glasses signed Gordiola Mallorca and the decoration seems a lot like the 'amber plate' post with similar enamelling work and palette. The shape/style seems old but then, time froze in Spain under Franco and so I am having trouble dating them. Any thoughts? I have more pictures if they would help or if you just want them for your archive.
Much thanks

Hi, I'm very sorry this is such a late reply but I had been off the board for a long while and have only just realised I can see replies to my posts :)

Thank you for posting your vases.
The design is similar but I think definitely a different artist because the flowers are done differently and also the signature in black is not the same handwriting (painted script)

But I'm sure there wont be that many of these pieces around.  I'm afraid I know so little about Gordiola that I can't help with the dating.  I thought my plate might be 30s or 40s but if I'm frank, I'm really not sure now given the other piece I found.

If you do come back to the board, would it be possible to post a close up clear shot of the enamelled flowers please? It might help in the future if any other pieces come along.

Thanks for adding to the thread and apologies for such a tardy acknowledgement :)

Hi M
enigmatic title there
Ok, so they are a pair of small tumblers @ 80mm tall. Pic attached (hopefully) as requested. If you want some more I can upload them, just let me know.
Thanks for the reply

Hello and thanks for coming back to the thread.  Your pic did not attach but I presume you have realised that :)

80mm is small but my plate is also saucer sized really.  Perhaps a little bigger,I've not got it here with me at the mo).
Gordiola still produce quite 'old fashioned' style glass so it's quite impossible to date their glass by style really.
I had thought my enamels looked old but I've seen what I think is recently enamelled glass (last 20/30 years maybe or perhaps even more recent than that) and it contains enamels that I thought were old until I realised when it was most likely painted.

So, it seems that dating it by type of enamels, design or style of glass is going to be a bit difficult really.

here is another style vase signed Gordiola Mallorca but again someone different has enamelled it and signed it.
http://www.todocoleccion.net/antiguedades/vaso-vidrio-soplado-amarillo-esmaltado-membrillo-flores-firmado-gordiola-mallorca-1-mitad-s-xx~x44794724

And these are similar to your tumblers but signed but someone different
http://www.todocoleccion.net/antiguedades/tres-copas-esmalte-vidrio-ambar-artesanal-mallorca-gordiola-corona-marques-c-8x5-5cms~x48888548

and this one has similar enamel colours and design to my plate and looks to be a similar period perhaps?

Well spotted. The second one is indeed three tumblers of identical shape and size to mine.

Sorry about the pics. forgot how small they need to be for this site. Will try these fresh out of photoshop....

Still producing indeed. By coincidence I was at the Gordiola shop in Palma today. Not my thing so I didn't spend much time there. If I'd have known, I would have asked for all the info.

The shop was very tourist orientated and not at all interesting, especially for my tastes.
