Title: Tutti-Frutti style with silver leaf ID

But I love the "tutti-frutti" designs so much and I've seen this style on some high priced pieces before. But I can't find an exact match of Style other than this link.

The piece on topic is a bowl. Not an ashtray. It measures about 8.5" at widest. Not 5".
The closest consistent style would be either avem or Dino martens. especially with the tutti-frutti design, silver and copper aventurine inclusions. the detail in the work is hard to see from the photo but it is amazing none the less.

I would just assume ashtray would be a smaller bowl not as large as this. Is the definition given due to having curved edges?

Post by: Ivo on August 21, 2012, 07:53:32 AM: These are quite large, around 10-12" across. And as for definition, back in the sixties when everyone smoked, these were called ashtrays. It is only in recent years when smoking stopped being PC that they were relabeled bowls.

There were several threads on the board discussing pieces in this shape, and common sense was that they could not be attributed; but it seems that it depends on the decoration... (I probably should have said the shape was generic 8) -- or can we assume that other pieces in this shape are by Vetro Artistico Veneziano as well?)

My own private definition of an ashtray: bowl with some sort of cigarette rests.

That gets complicated in the UK, because apparently at one time having cigarette rests put an ashtray into a different higher tax category, so many ashtrays were made without.
