Hi all
I have now completed this amber kneeling lady centrepiece set.
My question is-if anyone has any clues please-do you think judging by the "Olympic rings" on the separate bowl and also the bowl she holds was this made as a commerative piece for the 1936 Berlin Olympics?
My personal feeling is that this piece was made by Libochovice, would anyone else agree?
Thanks in advance
Nige

Nigel your pictures dont blow up enough for me to see the detail on her or her bowl.
Can you make them 590 x 390?
thanks

here is another it seems to only let me post certain size

Sadly :'( I only have the bowl but the acanthus leaves around the base are interesting too. Now on the look out for the stand ;)

Pamela shows it as 'unknown' in the 'figurines and centrepieces' section of
http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/index2.html
and shows pink and green examples, complete with bowls.

The lady in this stand reminds me of another lady flower frog I have which I have now seen attributed by some to Cambridge glass USA she is a big girl ... measures about 8.5 inches high

The blue lady figure flower frog is not Cambridge nor is it U.S.
-
Well that's pretty definate...Thanks for clearing that up. :) I see one on ebay today as a lamp listed as Walther ?

The Olympic rings on the bowl I have seen on a long base with 3 recesses, bowl in the centre recess and the recesses on either side had the Libochovice vases with the doves back to back on the base.
-
Are these really Olympic Rings Nige, or a looped ring pattern that runs round the entire circumference of the bowl?
-
They continue around the bowl so maybe not Olympic circles?
-
Maybe I can clear up some confusion for future attributions. The URL below is a Cambridge Flower Frog site I authored years ago for the National Cambridge Collectors organization. If its not here then its not Cambridge. Ken

Ohio, thanks for posting that link it's very handy for future reference... Is there anyway of keeping these links in one place as a sort of directory. I save them to my computer as favourites but have so many now its a long list to search through and not alphabetical. :)
-
I assume you mean you save them as bookmarks. Every web browser has a bookmarks manager where you can sort them and put them into folders
-
Yes I surpose that is what I mean but I was thinking more on this Board as when you search for Cambridge Glass a hundred discussions come up and its hard to wade through to find important stuff like this link.
-
If they are added here, then you only have to search the one board http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/board,32.0.html

Hello Everyone,
As you have been discussing the large lady flower frog for reference Ive added a photo her next to the kneeling lady.
I would not be surprised if they were the same maker.
In my opinion neither have been finished particularly well; they both have very distinct mold lines and I think lack detail and finesse!
Texture wise they feel very soft, fine and silky much more so than any of my known Libochoivce pieces.

Hi Meegs
I thought the blue lady flower frog is made by Sowerby?

Thanks Brenton,
I hope Simba is reading this.
Compared with the seated arms down lady and flora the 8 and 1/2 inch figure is so crude and lacking in detail I would assume at least a different mold maker then!
And again the large figure has a much softer silkier texture, so much nicer to handle!

Hi Meegs
The kneeling lady that I had (sold it to Australia) had the word tschechvolique stamped underneath.I am sure it could be Libochovice or Reich?
The blue lady I don't think is Sowerby...there is a pink version on ebay with a very deep base and is a lamp.
BTW the amber kneeling lady,do you need an amber bowl for her as I may be able to help you out?
Cheers Nige

I have to say I agree, looking at the two pieces together, the brown lady is a far superior moulding and has much greater detail and finish than the blue. Quite different makers in my opinion.
It does surprise me how crudely finished some of these complicated and large pieces are... a little extra attention to finish detail would make such a difference.
Added, I am assuming you have already checked the Black Poppy site?

Nige,
there are no obvious makers mark on my kneeling lady, so its very positive to hear yours was marked tschechvolique.
Thank-you for the offer to help out regarding her bowl. Yes, I am looking for her bowl, but it is not high on my priority list. She is not perfect and I probably paid too much for her, she has a chip underneath her and some scruffy bangs down her front and around the edge of the bowl she holds, so as much as I would like to complete the set with her bowl I can't really justify the costs of importing one at the moment.
Cheers
