Hi.
Bit puzzled about this one. Very fine cane setting. Unusually high centre to canes. My comparisons have led me to a possibile maker, but what do others think?

Could it be an unsigned Jim Brown?
Or perhaps a very, very, very good Murano? But somehow I don't think so!

The general design is, of course [for those that know!], seen in some American Gillender weights ... large central ruffle-type cane, concentric "carpet" of white canes and outer row of colour canes. But I don't think the central or white canes are right for Gillender.

Kevin, Simone - thanks for the input. It is a very difficult one. I had not seen anything with such a high centre to the canes apart from St Louis where some modern examples have the same height to them.
Also, this is one of a pair. The other is a perfect match.
Any further thoughts from anybody appreciated.

 That is very unusual

Pairs are known for Richardson's (c. 1920s period) weights and they also exist as a garniture with a matching Ink Bottle.

When I say perfect match - they are not totally identical. They are same size, same profile - there is a very slight variation in the profile of the cane setting and whilst on one weight the matching of cane sizes in the reducing rings is spot on, in the other there is a small variance where they have been made to fit . However as a matching pair they are pretty good. I have a Richardson pair and the mystery weights match better than they do. Matching bottle would have been nice!!!
I will try and get a photo of them side by side

I dropped a note to Bob Hall with the pictures and he had said they are Richardson.
I have a few Richardson including a footed concentric pair, and the cane settings are very flat, so I had not really thought along those lines.
However it seems that they did do carpet grounds, although they are quite rare. I will check against the books tonight.
However If that's what Bob says its good enough for me.
