Title: Siddy Langley New Buy
Post by: adam20 on October 19, 2012, 09:32:04 AM
Just thought I'd post this Siddy Langley vase just delivered. I love her work and wanted to own a piece so here it is.

3.5" high marked Siddy Langley 1997.

Gorgeous!
I've got a bottle with a long slim neck with the coiled trail around it, which I bought  a very long time ago - it's more recent than this though - I love the effects on yours more than the coil on mine, and I love the shape of yours more than mine.
But mine's bigger than yours. ;)

Thanks Sue. I'd love to see a picture of yours.

I am trying to buy bits of Studio glass by the great artists of today, I have A few now. Was bidding on some Peter Layton, but it gets too rich for my blood. I will need to be brave and buy a piece soon as his work will go well with Langley, Shakspeare and Okra, etc. I have.

I was also bidding on a small bit of Norman Stuart-Clarke which was also signed by Peter Layton. I bottled out. LOL

You can't be - that's what I'm doing! (trying to get together a collection of early works by the greats of today)
I got a nice Peter Layton, slightly damaged - it has a burst bubble in the surface texture, which does not affect its appearance but it's good enough to be an example of his design and wasn't the usual horrendous price.
I'm afraid I'm a little bit snobbish about preferring works made by the artist themselves.

Yes but I collect anything I like as well from Alsterfors to Zelezny Brodske Sklo. I do like the Studio artists though. Envious you have a nice Layton. LOL. Will also be buying Sam Herman and Pauline Solven, but as you say expensive, I will need to be patient.

I have put this Langley piece with my IOW and Glasform. Looks lovely.

Heres are a couple of my Siddy pieces produced in the early 90s, although regrettably, I no longer own the small JIP vase.  :'(

Thanks  Adam, I love the deep/rich iridescence that Siddy achieves on many of her pieces.  I think her work represents good value for money compared to many other contemporary makers out their.

Adam, Greg and I are after all the Sams. We don't need competition!  :P
My bottle is quite like yours Greg, but I think it's gone upstairs. I've got a wee Marakesh vase too. Sadly, the camera and I are going through a very tough patch right now. Communication has broken down completely and it's not being co-operative.

 :'( and me  ;D
I just bide my time though and keep my fingers crossed.
No Sam .... yet  but I've not seen one to rival Sue's and that is the one I aspire to  ;D
Sue's Sam is here http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,44750.msg249408.html#msg249408
it makes me most envious!
I love your Siddy vase Adam.  It's a gorgeous colour but not 'organic' enough for me.
