Title: Murano Bird Vase (another one)
Post by: petet63 on October 21, 2012, 02:26:52 PM
I picked this up over the week. It is 24cm in height and 15cm at its widest. I am terrible with colours but it seems to go from a golden  amber? through to red with yellow and clear. I have used the UV light on it but it is very low on power (no extra Batteries to be found !) In the pictures below the yellow turns bright orange and the clear has the green glow. Any clues as to maker and age please.

The orange glow under UV is a result of cadmium (used to colour the glass yellow) and the dull green glow is from the manganese used as a decolourant in the (clear) glass.

Thanks John, I was about to ask why a clear glass Wedgwood seal I had has the Manganese Glow. I assume that manganese gives clarity to the glass. I noticed the seal glowing when i took these pictures.
