Hi guys, wonder if you could help me with this paperweight pls.
Its 3" across and 2 3/4" in height and the canes look good to me. Although you cant see it very well in the pic, the base has a dip in the centre where the rod was snap off and looks like it may have been heated to smooth it off. Thanks in advance, Wolfie

It looks to me like the 1976 Caithness Glass design called 'Latticino'.

Hi Alan. i think you might be right. Although it dosent look exactly the same as the one in the caithness book, it is exactly the same as some online.

2 things, in the book it says it should have Caithness CG cane and I cant see one, does any have a close up of one so i know what they look like.
Also the base, obviously its not signed in any way, I thought Caithness weights are flat ground? With that dent in the base is this some kind of reject that they havent signed? Wolfie

I had one with an indented base and no CG cane - I am not certain whether that was how some of them came, or whether Willie Manson may have made some later on his own (but then I would expect a WM cane...). It is not the same weight, as mine was noticeably off centre.

Willie Manson did inded make weights to this design in 1980 when he had the studio at Killwinning - it was one of his Scotia range.
Howewer as far as I know they all had a thistle cane underneath and were flat ground.

I had one with no markings at all once, and there was a thread on here about it. Willie definately made the same weight, so could be either.

These can be confusing.
The basic design was used by Paul Ysart during his 1970s "Harland" period, and appeared in a 1975 brochure with the design name "Mili Fiori".
Willie Manson introduced the design, called "Latticino", to Caithness Glass in 1976 and, as Derek has said, he later used it within his 1980/1 "Scotia" range, under the design name, "Satin Chain".
I was told by Peter Holmes that at Caithness Glass, some of the "Latticno" design were made at Perth and some at Oban. This may be the reason why some have a CG cane and others do not.
My understanding is that outer canes in the CG "Latticino" versions are Paul Ysart canes and the inner circle are made with Caithness Glass canes. Some sources suggest that the inner circle had a fixed number of canes but I have seen examples with various numbers of circle canes.
