This is a quirky blown bowl with a blue streak, similar to a Geoffry Baxter bowl produced by Whitefriars in 1961 but the streak in mine is less well-defined. It is 29.5cm wide and 14cm high at its highest point, with a flat base. The blue streak is mostly to one side. I hope that someone recognises it or can at least give me a good search term for this particular type of dish or bowl. I've been searching for narrow bowl and narrow dish without success. I think "banana bowl" is the most appropriate description, but that just brings up images of bowls full of bananas!
Thanks,
Valerie

Bayel, France made this type of bowl, amongst others. :)

Thanks Anne, I think you're right! I've done a couple of searches for Bayel glass - something I had never heard of, but then I don't know much yet! I've found a couple of bowls with exactly the same kind and colour of blue streak, one much more oval and another one narrower but still a bit wider than mine, dated 1950-55. There was also an oval bowl with a grey centre which looks rather like the other bowl I posted on the message board at the same time as this one. Most Bayel glass seems to be wine glasses and clear crystal, but there are a few of these streaky art items out there.
So much to learn, so little time . . .
