Title: Who made this one?
Post by: Nick77 on November 26, 2012, 02:16:36 PM
This ended on ebay at the weekend, I did try a bid but stopped when it climbed over the £100 as I could not work out the maker. Can anyone enlighten me?

Many thanks

Hi Nick

It is a St Mandé.  The canes seem to be set very high in the dome, even for them!

Thanks Alan.
I had wondered if it might be St Mande or Grenelle but was guessing as I have very little in the way of references for either, but couldn't match the canes as being Baccarat, St Louis or Clichy.

Yes the canes do seem high. Was this a fair price paid? Do they make much more than this?

Hi Nick

I think that the price of St Mandé paperweights varies with the quality and the design, much as it does with Clichy and other makers. The simple miniatures are typically in the £100 to £150 range, whereas I have seen a couple of really nice large examples go for over £400. So I think the price on this one was not unusual.
