Title: Bacchus or not?
Post by: alinagreta on December 22, 2012, 11:00:52 AM
Hi, I recently purchased this amazing paperweight and I really want to know something about it. I am not a collector but I buy these kind of papaerweights from time to time. Some said it could be Bacchus... Any information will be much appreciated. Thank you

Looks like a Murano to me

Agreed - 100% Murano, probably Fratelli Toso, 1960s - 1980s.

The flat polished base is typical of Murano: an Old English paperweight would usually have a recessed base, maybe still with pontil mark, maybe polished concave. Classic Bacchus weights have long outside canes drawn a long way underneath - see images attached of a Bacchus and its base.
