Title: Identification of Amazing vase 4.6 kg
Post by: grandma on December 28, 2012, 06:36:48 AM
I am very keen to find out the origin of this beautiful vase which I bought as a Murano vase at auction.  It stands 29.5 cm high and weighs an incredible 4.6 kg.  As can be seen, the base is solid glass, made separately then attached, and the vase itself is also very solid.  The various techniques used are apparent from the photos.  I would love to know the name of the glassmaker, approximate date and the name of the glassworks.  Any of the above would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry that the photos didn't all come through.  Here are the rest (hopefully). The first photo didn't show the attached base stand.

You should reply to your own posts to add more pictures rather than starting a new thread.  :) I will ask the moderators to merge the threads.

Is the base glass? I rather think the vase is modern Chinese though. They rather seem to like adding square bases to things

Thanks Christine.  Yes the base is solid glass fused to the vase.  I haven't seen a modern Chinese vase with this much detail or weight (4.6 kg - just over 10 pounds)  but then I haven't seen many modern Chinese glass vases.  It is actually a very nice quality piece which made me think it might be modern Murano.
I'll follow your advice re posts - haven't done this for a while and just couldn't get the first message to accept more photos - I think the first one was too big :(

Big is often a sign of modern Chinese

So are square bases, I'm afraid.  :'(
