Title: Clear glass bowl fine threading detail, rough pontil mark to base info pls ?
Post by: chriss on January 02, 2013, 10:14:07 PM
Hi I have an unusual (to me anyway) and quite pretty clear glass bowl with diamond shaped pattern to the clear glass and a fine pinkish/ruby threaded detail to the upper ruffled part of the bowl, with the outer edges of the ruffles being finished off slightly thicker than the rest. It has a broken / rough pontil mark to the base, no markers marks or signatures. Does anyone know anything about it please?
Thanks  :)

Late 19th C and possibly English, less likely Bohemian. I wouldn't like to hazard a guess at a maker but perhaps one of the smaller companies. Is that a folded rim or an applied rim? My similar ones all have polished pontil marks. It's machine threaded.

Hi Lustrousstone :))
Thanks for your reply. I'm sure it's an applied rim. The pontil mark, I initially took as a broken pontil mark as it's totally uneven central to it where it's recessed and has very sharp areas to the outer edges in one area, so I thought it isn't polished, just coarsely snapped (which coincidentally was recessed :/ ). But looking again, polishing may have happened, though there isn't a lot to polish that would have jutted out in the first place I would have thought?
