Does anyone know who really makes these bowls? I have to admit, the signature gave me a good laugh. Instead of etching a Cross of Lorrain, the forger simply spelled Cross... ::)
-
Possibly worth looking into Chinese LiuLi or Tittot Crystal production :)
-
Interesting piece, certainly looks very similar to Liuli and Tittot and to have been produced in a similar manor to their crystal/ Pāte-de-verre pieces. However, all of the Liuli and Tittot pieces that I have come across have always been signed, perhaps there are exceptions, I'm not sure...? Looking at the subject matter, it doesn't appear typical of Liuli or Tittot. Did Liuli or Tittot produce similar pieces/designs..?
As discussed in other similar threads, there are now quite a few smaller companies predominately in Asia, Liuli and Tittot aside, making pieces using this or similar techniques, which are likely to be unsigned, at least at the production stage!
Just a few thoughts, nice item, even with the rather odd signature. :)

Thanks for sharing. I guess they told them over the phone what to inscribe. ;D

I guess it is possible that it was signed and the original signature was polished away. :(
John
Could the Daum and France be genuine with the cross added later? Here is one with no signature: completed ebay listing (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DAUM-FRANCE-CRYSTAL-GLASS-RARE-ONE-OF-A-KIND-ART-NOUVEAU-THREE-NUDE-MERMAIDS-/261113004499?cmd=ViewItem&category=29558&ih=016)

My guts said; "It's Luili ot Tittot and some prat has defaced it."
Who am I to argue with my guts?

Thank you, interesting find, John,
Q/A in that listing quotes a Daum collector 'EMP' who suggests replica from Romania or Poland

Here's two more with fake signatures, but at least they put the Cross of Lorraine in....I love how they just etched it right into the leg....
-
are these fakes made using the pate de verre technique ?

Let's be careful about wording.
The signatures are clearly wrong, especially with the word "cross" and what seesm to be a rather poor version of an actual cross of Lorraine. But the items to which they are added may well have been ok (i.e. not part of any intended faking) before the signatures were applied.
So, "are these fakes made ..." is misleading unless there is proof that the items were made with the intention of adding a false signature prior to being put into the open market.

I agree these are most likely Chinese or Taiwanese liuli pieces. By that I don't mean Liuligongfang nor Tittot; as others have commented these makers products are almost always marked. However, there are many less well known producers of liuli (pate-de-crystal) hereabouts who make unmarked pieces.
That said, pieces like this could be made anywhere. Sculpting the original models is the hard part, the rest of the process is fairly easy to replicate.

My apologies Kev. I should have worded that better.
Please delete my question if necessary.
