Title: Siddy Langley Paperweight query
Post by: feinladyg on January 15, 2013, 07:33:40 PM
Hi I'm new here.

I bought a job lot of glass at auction and was hoping to get some help with IDs and values on some of the pieces.

The first paperweight I hope you can help with is iridescent pale green with gold lines with turn royal blue in the light and pink lilly type flowers. It is 10cm tall and 5cm across. Etched with Siddy Langley RP 1993 which I assume means was made by Richard Price but I can't find any reference to this particular design although it is similar to other Siddy Langley designs.

Someone wants to buy this from me but I have no idea of a fair price to ask. It is in very good condition.

Pictures attached

Many thanks

Ros

Lovely paperweight. Unfortunately value is not something we help with here, as it's all too subjective.

Thanks for your reply.

Wasn't sure if it was the done thing but I thought I'd ask anyway - hope I haven't offended anyone.

I will just have to make an educated guess.

Thanks

Ros

No one will be offended and we always like to look at stuff.

Have a peek at what Siddy's work goes for on ebay, it might give you a decent ball-park figure.
She is a very highly rated artist.  :)

I think this is a piece from Siddy's Ecuador series.

Paperweights by individual makers are somewhat undervalued, in my view.

Particularly if you compare the number made in an artist's lifetime with say, the number of paperweights produced by a factory in a year!

Depending on what you paid for the job lot, and whatever else was in it, if you ask double what you paid for the whole lot, for Siddy's paperweight, both you and the buyer will probably be doing ok!
