This butterfly paperweight (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574631383&toolid=10001&campid=5336261829&customid=&icep_item=130842576186&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229508&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg) does not look to me like a Paul Ysart piece - more like an Ysart Bros example. An interesting item though. Any thoughts?

Alan

Agreed. It looks more like Salvador Ysart than Paul Ysart.

A bit late in the sale period but I have sent the seller the following:

Quote
For information:

I am sure that this paperweight is not by Paul Ysart but was made by his father, Salvador, probably at the Ysart Brothers (Vasart) company between 1946 and mid 1950s.

The millefiori canes and the general features of the weight tie in with several examples I have which can be linked to the work of Salvador.

Doesnt even look like a salvador weight to me, but I am often wrong.  Has anyone seen a Salvador butterfly like this before?  1946---56 period  vasart yes.

Here's a photo of one just like it - except that I think mine is neater with less glass showing around the outside. And I have evidence of style and cane matching to back up my view that it was made by Salvador Ysart.

(Details of evidence will not be shared here at this time otherwise a scheduled PCC presentation in June will not have much to offer as "new" info.)
