Title: Art Deco shape mottled vase, with pulled multicolour + Aventurine decoration
Post by: rocco on February 08, 2013, 04:10:13 PM
Can anyone help in attributing this nice vase? (Not my usual area of collecting, but I thought it was quite special, reminding me of some Jiri Suhajek designs).

Art Deco shape, clear glass with white mottling, inner casing slightly yellowish, 5 pulled multicoloured elements with some Aventurine...
Height 14 cm, width appr. 13.5 cm, cut and polished rim, moulded slightly indented base with lots of wear.

My guess would be Bohemian, and 1920s/30s, but I might be completely off the track.
Searching Craig's fabulous site (and several other) didn't really bring up anything; the closest I could find are the Rindskopf pieces with pulled feather decoration, and there are Kralik pieces with similar shape...

Any help highly appreciated as usual!
Thanks
Michael

I have not seen one like this before, but IMHO Czech for sure...  Really nice piece.... I would have snagged it also....

May I copy and use your pics?

Thanks a lot for your reply, Craig!

You are more than welcome to use any of the pics.

So no attribution to a maker possible?
I was hoping that this was not a difficult one, such a distinctive pattern...

Michael

edit: Is there a proper term for this sort of decoration? (to make searching easier...)

Just to revise my description a little:
looking closer, the mottled yellowish layer is the inner one; the outer seems to be slightly opalescent, giving an overall white mottled look (I hope it is visible in my pics).

Thanks,
Michael

It is a variation of a pulled feather......

I have seen similar pulls with this much color variation recently on a couple of vases which came out of an old storage locker.  Not attributed for sure as to maker.

Images attached....

Thanks again, Craig!
Those are the closest to my vase I have seen so far.

With Art Deco glass it seems far more difficult to attribute a maker than with Art Nouveau (apart from known Kralik decors or shapes).

It is more difficult because the glass was, in many cases, more mass produced and exported. There is also not really much in the way of documentation for major exporters such as Kralik and Welz....

I will file the pics and look for shape matches to see if we can get a better idea to mail them down....

Nice piece....  I love the pulls on this one.....

I was looking for similar shaped pieces. The closest I could find is this Kralik overshot vase on Mac's site: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bREgX4BlEAw/UKrdNHB4CUI/AAAAAAAAIiI/oRVFA8mMM-o/s1600/K030.JPG (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bREgX4BlEAw/UKrdNHB4CUI/AAAAAAAAIiI/oRVFA8mMM-o/s1600/K030.JPG)

Thanks for keeping my vase in mind, it would be nice to pin down a maker one day...

I don't suppose this could be someone like Poschinger could it?

... bit sceptical, too - especially since mid 20th century means around mid 80īs.  ;)

Dirk, I wasn't doing a direct comparison, but I was just wondering if the coloured prunt type thing might be something Poschinger had done on and off over the years in different variations :)
they claim that vase was marked with a Poschinger mark?
