Title: Venetian? Very light weight lilac delicate candle stick id help please?
Post by: chriss on February 17, 2013, 07:51:08 PM
Hi I have got a pair of very light weight hollow blown candle sticks which are  10 and a half inches tall and only weigh about 72 grams each. They have been blown and are totally hollow except a thin layer that is across the top recess where the base of candles would be, and made of very thin glass which has fine ridged detail to the surface. The camera I used doesn't show the colour well as it is a lilac with an iridescent sheen to the surface, but I was using a camera that shows the fine detail better and isn't any good with depicting true colours as they actually are as the back colour is a sandy colour :-\ I know nothing about the history of them as I picked them up from an antique and collectors fair a while ago and the seller knew nothing about them, though had them for a few years. As a guess, I thought they may be Venetian or Bimini or Lauscha or something like that but I know very little about this type of glass and they are just random guesses so hoped someone here may be able to help me with more accurate info please? Thanks :D

These are definitely Italian, made by a little known company specialising in lampwork ornamentation. Tried to find my 50cm rose vase of similar extraction with a label - but alas, snowed under.  They're not in Murano - they're somewwhere int he deepest province.

Please do not be tempted to use these with candles, as they are too light and the whole thing becomes top heavy.

Thankyou Ivo :D you don't know if these are modern or vintage by any chance please? When your similar glass re-surfaces, would it be possible of a photo of the label please so that it gives me something else to hunt for please? Thanks for your help  ;D

I think they are very recent. I searched my archives and found that the tall flutes have a tiny transparent sticker with the logo "VID" .  I have been unable to get anything further. The other glasses are not stickered, but I assume they are from the same maker. It may be the maker who specialises in novelty Grappa bottles in Borosilicato - or there may be several talents at work.
