Title: Mazzega bowl
Post by: rocco on February 24, 2013, 11:50:34 AM
Beautiful bowl, 20 cm diameter and massive. Simple yet elegant shape, just relying on the optical properties of the smokey green glass...
A.V. Mazzega paper label.

Put here for reference (if a similar piece might appear).

And it certainly would be interesting who designed it and when it might have been made (maybe the label could narrow this down?)

Thanks!
Michael

Remarkably similar design here: >> ebay auction of labeled Seguso bowl (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Schone-Seguso-Murano-Glas-Schale-Teller-grau-altes-orangenes-Papierlabel-/390545301644?pt=Glas_Kristall&hash=item5aee50608c).

rocco, I just now paid attention to the label on the eBay bowl. It looks older than the bowl to me. What do you think about it?

Thanks for your thoughts, Anita!

I really don't know about the Seguso label on that bowl ???
They sell lots of fine Murano glass, with sometimes surprising (well, to me) labels / signatures; but I don't know enough about what Seguso Vd'A may have produced in the 1950s (apart from Flavio Poli Sommerso pieces)

My Mazzega bowl and its label look very 1970s to me, but I couldn't find much on the net regarding their output of decorative glass (vases, bowls, etc).
The idea seems to be the same in both pieces, but the execution is a little different -- mine looks "crisper" (and more attractive if I may say so ;) )

Heiremans has the Seguso label dating late 1940s to early 1960s in his book Murano Glass Themes and Variations. The eBay bowl looks so sleek that it looks later to me. It could be that it was just carefully made so the things we associate with furnaces of that time (bubbles, ash) were not included. Both your bowl and the eBay ones are very nice. They look carefully executed.

Thanks again, Anita.
Do you have any more information on the Mazzega issue? (When the label may have been used, designers associated with A.V. Mazzega, etc.)

OT: I have something nice for your zoo, I will write you an e-mail...

Love getting things for the zoo. Thank you!

I don't know anything about AV Mazzega. The only thing I know is they concentrate on lamps and table decor. Most things I've seen done by them look like 1970-80s or later.
