Title: Aqua vase or what? - I.D Request
Post by: Otis Orlando on March 09, 2013, 12:34:17 AM
Hi, any ideas on the purpose and maker of this unusual looking hand blown vase.  I think it maybe Scandinavian  The base is very rippled/textured.  A period would be great too.   Extensive research has been carried out, but I am not able to identify.   Hope you can help.

Height 8.2cm

Top Dia. 7.3cm

Base Dia. 8.4cm

Thickness 0.2cm

Is it the same as these? (I can't tell from the angle of your photo). I think they're hyacinth vases from the 1960s.

Yes, the vase is the same Julie.  Had a quick search under the name hyacinth vase.  Unable to find an image or a positive lead.   I will try other sites later today.   The vases listed do have similar styles though.   I wonder if this is just a general term used to describe these types of vases.
There are one or two very minute nibbles around the rim too, which would suggest/agree poorly made, I think.  Do you have any idea who made these?

I'm afraid I don't know who made them or when exactly (just guessing 1960s) just that they are reasonably common and inexpensive on ebay.

Things like bulb vases were often made for specifically for bulb wholesalers and seed merchants, so unless you can find them in glass company order and pattern books, you don't know who made them because they may not appear in glass company catalogues or adverts. This one is known to have been made by several companies for Rimac
