An amber pressed glass part trinket set comprising a tray (14 x 7 inches) and a pair of matching candlesticks. All the pieces have distinctive (enamelled?) reddish-brown decorative panels in a kind of faux-tortoiseshell pattern.
Any comments, suggestions, or ID, please?

Ahhh Fred, somewhere on the board is some more of this pattern, but I can't recall if they were trinket set parts or something else... a search may turn it up somewhere... :)

Found it! http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,28300.0.html 8)

Thank you for the link, Anne. Well spotted and recollected, especially after over 3˝ years!
Unfortunately, the linked topic leaves me somewhat confused. Pain’s faux tortoiseshell bowl is obviously marked Czechoslovakia, and yet the pink bowl on Pamela’s site is attributed to Bernsdorf (and indeed, the topic header now identifies the bowl as from Bernsdorf). Wasn’t the Ankerglas Bernsdorf glass works in Germany, not Czechoslovakia?
Anyway, whatever the attribution, we now have tray, candlesticks and a pot. I wonder if the pot originally had a lid? Hopefully more pieces may be forthcoming - let’s hope we don’t have to wait another 3˝ years.
Is there a case for consolidatng both these topics into one, Anne?

THanks for posting this picture of the trinket set (I purchased it from Ebay and am waiting for it to arrive) I also posted a query about the bowl which I also have (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,49432.msg278754.html#msg278754) and I now have a small plate or shallow dish http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-18393 neither have any markings. I thought the plate looked like Stolzle
-
I forgot to say a few weeks ago on Ebay there was a more complete trinket set with the pots, they were oblong shaped with a pagoda style lid. Sorry should have got a picture :(
-
There is another piece on ebay - art deco glass barrel/urn with lid - that matches the bowl I have. ;)
-
The trinket set has arrived safe and sound and I thought I would post another picture to show how long and thin the tray is it measures 14.5 inches x 7 inches, it is quite unusual and very heavy :)
-
Just found the same set on Ebay but without the markings and it has the pots Art-Deco-Czech-Amber-Dressing-Table-Set-Very-Good-Condition-/281083641625

Angela, I've already saved copies of the photos with the seller's permission and I will post them here as permanent references after auction ends on the evening of 1 April (as dictated by pre-arranged Glass trinket Sets section protocol).
In the meantime, the link to the ebay listing is
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281083641625?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
The seller tells me that he also has a similar set in green, and I have requested photos of it for posting here in due course.
-
Brilliant...maybe it will help to identify the pieces I have ;)
-
Bidding on the plain amber set now finished, so here are the photos as promised.
(Permission for the re-use of these images granted by surreal_day).
The set consists of:
1 x Tray measuring 36cm wide x 18cm deep
1 x Large Pot 13cm wide x 13cm high
1 x Small Pot 11cm wide x 10cm high
2 x Candlesticks 10cm high
1 Pin Tray 13cm wide x 4.5cm deep

Final 2 photos.
-
Here is a shallow "ball" bowl with a variant pattern and definitely in uranium glass to add to the mix
-
I love that green Christine !! That is so unusual ;D I have that shallow bowl in the amber :)

The amber trinket set pattern appears to be an attempt to imitate this style of decoration by Josef Hoffmann called the Bronzit series for Lobmeyr

Stunning decorative Dressing Table Set and Ball/Bobble Bowl Angela! And gorgeous Ball/Bobble Bowl Christine. I feel all the pieces could be Stolzle Hermanova Hut, and we are getting very close to an ID.
I have opened a thread for the Ball/Bobble bowls with a bowl of my own, and some reasoning behind my theory, if you would both be so kind as to add your Bobble Bowl pics there it would be fab!
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,53101.0.html
Add to this info Angela's 2 bowls with "Tortoiseshell" style patterning which appear to match exactly in the Tortoiseshell sense, and one of those bowls awaiting confirmation as being a Stolzle Hermanova Hut variant, as matched by Angela in Marcus's Sklo Catalogue/CD Rom, then we may well have an ID for the Dressing Table Set, if it is agreed that this particular Tortoiseshell was probably exclusive to one maker, which I suspect it was. :)
-
I didn't keep the pictures. They were just taken on my phone at an antiques fair
-
Oh what a shame Christine, I will add a link to the other thread instead.
-
I can copy images from one topic to another if needed?
-
That would be great Anne thanks, I put links in the thread already but I think images makes things easier.

All done Jayne

Some photos of another enamelled amber set, this time showing the pin tray and lidded pot with enamelled decoration (to complement the photos of the plain ones in replies #11 and 12).
(Permission for the re-use of these images on the GMB granted by frankieb1993).
Still waiting to find a trinket set in any colour other than amber.
Fred.
-
I just bought these to add to my collection, I think there are two small pots in the set I need to find . I will relist the tray and candlestick in case anyone wants them, as I have them already. ;)
-
Reply #11 certainly shows that there are at least two sizes of lidded pot (at least in the plain amber set), but not the total number (or the combination of large + small if there are 3 lidded pots). I suppose that, working on averages for most multi-pot sets, that 1 large + 2 small would be a reasonable guess.
So, Angela, I will keep my eyes peeled for a couple of enamelled amber small lidded pots and email you with details if I spot any.
Fred.
-
Thank you Fred that would be brilliant ;D
-
Just browsing the 1940 Josef Inwald catalogue and found the trinket pot from this set on page 44 pattern no 11757 but no tray or candlesticks, also listed is a perfume bottle and a perfume atomiser. They are plain not patterned.Maybe they would be in an earlier or later catalogue? Anyone got either ? :) I would scan the page and show you but don't think its allowed!
-
The trinket pot and pin dish have arrived so I have a more complete set now :D
-
Mmmmmm lovely, Angela. Sorry I've not been taking much part in the board lately, I've been tied up in a big local project so have had very little free time to do much else. I've just been checking for Mod reports and not been replying. Hopefully later next week I'll be able to catch up here again. :)
-
Look forward to your comments Anne... The trinket dish now I have looked closely at it, doesn't have a star in the base like the one in the Josef Inwald catalogue....further to this discussion I have been watching this tray set on Ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Art-Deco-Amber-Pressed-Glass-Large-Tray-with-4-Removable-Dishes-/310722185031?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=CjWb3v41kIAgbia0pcsZNNcK%252FFI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
the dimensions of the tray are exactly the same as my trinket set tray . I have just found this set in the Hermanova Hut before 1958 catalogue (Sklo CD) on page 18 also the vase on page 9 is the same pattern as the dish I have. So I am pretty convinced this is by Hermanova Hut. :D
-
A trinket set pattern (Anne’s GTS mystery set 04) has been discussed for some time on the GMB at
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,50479.0.html
with a recent post identifying the tray from the set with the Hermanova Hut pre-1958 catalogue. Now, a lidded pot from the set has been shown where alternative panels are decorated internally with an enamelled ‘faux-tortoiseshell’ pattern seemingly identical to that on a whole variety of pieces discussed in this topic thread, and where a suggestion of a Stolzle / Hermanova Hut attribution has been put forward by several contributors.
I notice, too, that the candlesticks in this trinket set and mystery set 04 would seem to be the same shape.
Although catalogue proof for all the decorated pieces is still lacking, the very strong link between the two different trinket set patterns in the threads, with many of the pieces also being marked as Czechoslovakian must help to reinforce the likelihood of the pieces being by Stolzle / Hermanova Hut attribution beyond reasonable doubt.
Fred.
-
Thanks Fred I think that is the definitive answer ;D

Found this pattern glass in Pressglas-korrespondenz.......Abb. 2008-1/420 ALLEGRO PL, Art.Nr. 277724523, € xxx “Żardiniera na nóżkach Art-Deco ...“ [Jardiničre, bernstein-farbenes Pressglas, geätzt?] H 10 cm, D 24 cm SG: Hersteller unbekannt, Polen, 1930-er Jahre
found in 2008-1...suggests Polish origin
-
Wow!, Angela – that was well observed.
I see that ‘Hersteller unbekannt’ translates to ‘manufacturer unknown’, but at least a Polish putative origin rather than Czech or German may be a fruitful avenue to explore.
Fred.
-
Except that in the other post, there is a bowl with the tortoiseshell pattern marked Czechoslovakia...
-
My feeling is still that these are Czech not Polish...
-
Bit of a fluke finding that link ...I was looking for something totally different........I recall a bigger article about the patterned glass but haven't come across it yet.....I agree Anne I think Czech.
-
Found another set of this pattern which definitely suggests Hermanova....http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Ladies-Glass-Vanity-Set-From-1920s-/261956210188?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=DAy8pYbfx4qS%252FylBaA08oJeErX8%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Angela ,a green uranium example of this set has recently been discussed on
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,60474.0.html
and positively ID’d as Hermanova Hut (from their pre-1958 catalogue)
Perfume flask, pattern 11408, size 140gr
Atomiser, pattern 11408A, size 140gr
Lidded powder pot, pattern 18811, size 9cm
Tray, pattern 18845, size 27.5cm
Anne has already added it to the revamped GTS site at
http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/cms3/czechoslovakian/hermanova/11408-18811 (http://www.glasstrinketsets.com/cms3/czechoslovakian/hermanova/11408-18811)
I will try and get permission from the seller of the amber & tortoiseshell set to add copies of the photos here and on the GTS site a.s.a.p.
Fred.
-
Brilliant Fred...yes I saw it on Anne's new pages and the green one is also for sale on Ebay...love to know what they really called this 'tortoiseshell' patterning. :)
-
Here are the reference photos of the Hermanva Hut 11408, 11408A, 18811 & 18845 trinket set with faux tortoiseshell decoration.

Just found another item in this pattern a perfume bottle and a bowl they are on ebay...on the foot of the bowl it is marked Vazia ?? Does this mean anything to anyone
-
Vazia is a place in Italy, but I don't know if that helps much, Angela? It's also the Portuguese word for empty, which is even less helpful...
-
Cheers Anne....I wondered if it was the name of the pattern ? I have several pieces but none have any marks on them so this is the first I have seen...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231906749229?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT of course they could be reading it wrong and it says VAKIA as in half of Czechoslovakia
-
Hmmmm it's not easy to see, is it, Angela, but from what I can see it doesn't look like a Z in the middle.... it could be a K or even an N... I suspect you might be on the right lines with ... VAKIA though.
-
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fantastic-Bohemian-Czech-amber-and-enamelled-detail-glass-bowl-/272226912961?hash=item3f61fd0ac1:g:UxYAAOSwuMFUhjq6
Czechoslovakia on it apparently
m
-
Excellent, thanks M! That confirms what we suspected. :)
-
It looks like the word is split up into parts in the mold. So part of the word Czechoslovakia on one foot and part on another foot. (just in case for future reference), so perhaps the letters on the other piece didn't form properly from the mold leaving it with just VAKIA on one foot.
-
That makes sense as an explanation. :)
-
I have managed to get another piece of this pattern...it is a decanter with a lovely arrow head stopper (not as previously thought a perfume bottle its much too big) I assume this came with small glasses and possibly a tray ...it measures 6.5 inches wide and 8 inches high with stopper in.
-
http://www.pressglas-korrespondenz.de/aktuelles/pdf/pk-2017-1w-evans-vase-hermanova-1935.pdf

Thank you for adding this :)
I love that green - it's very interesting and puts the amber design into context.

Mystery Set 4 seems to match the pot linked above Anne.
