This bowl looks as if it is mis-shapen but I do believe it is part of the design, as the kinks in the rim are symmetrical. Can anyone shed any light as to probable ID of this piece which is another from my recent job lot. It is 4.25 inches high and 6.25 at its widest point.
Many thanks

Wild guess but the surface decoration reminds me of Heron glass paperweights, ;D

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I now have something to investigate.
Much appreciated

It reminded me of Heron immediately too! :)

Three's the charm! That was my immediate thought as well.

It looks a bit subtle for Heron and the splotches look too big

And there's the applied rim. ???
But when it comes to bits of Heron that are not mushrooms, swans or pwts, I'm a bit unsure - you don't see much of anything that isn't a mushroom, a swan or a pwt. I think I've seen a couple of yellow pieces and that's about it. Both of those were rather impressive pieces (not big, but very nicely made and somehow "right").

Interesting piece. The shape reminded me a little of a few Peter Layton pieces I have seen around, similar to the one shown in the below link, having said that the pattern isn't instantly recognisable. There are quite a few Layton pieces which aren't signed or have very faint signatures. Might be worth ruling out at the very least.

Thanks all for contributions. I have looked at Peter Layton's work but it doesn't quite match the quality of his IMHO. I have rechecked for any signatures or marks, but nothing.

What about Isle of Wight Studio Glass?

I'd have thought unlikely with the wavy rim, John. Small bowls tended to be "bread-and-butter" sorts of bits and have consistent round shapes.
Lustre on IoWSG has a goldy sort of end apprearance rather than "bright" rainbowy - and both Summer Fruits and Meadow Garden have different coloured splodges over the general base colours - they also have thin sticks of enamels decorating them.

Just going through my Mark Hill book looking for something Mdina'ish and I came across Isle of Wight 'The Four Seasons' - this bowl vaguely reminded me of that base without the applied flower? or is that a long shot?

Far too long a shot, I'm afraid!
-
Sue yes you are right, looking closely at it, it also doesn't match on rim colours or to the description of the pieces either.

The Four Seasons was rather specifically about the glass flower feature on a more "basic" base. :)

Definitely not IOW - it is a beautiful bowl but doesn't have the finesse of IOW glass (IMHO). The surface looks like a bubbled oil slick.
