Title: Crystal candleholder with wave/fire pattern - ID = Ingridglas
Post by: I love all Glass on March 22, 2013, 05:37:03 PM
Crystal candleholder with wave/fire pattern, CZECH or SCANDANAVIAN?

Hello out there, any ideas as to maker of this candle stick, Czech or Scandinavian? Has hints of both, and unusual recessed pattern which could be a wave or a fire motif, very organic white crystal with lean to it, and heavy, about 11cm tall by 5cm square and weighs 0.825kg. Thanks for any ideas   Simon

It bears some resemblance to Timo Sarpaneva's Archipelago range...
On t'other hand, I've got a Dartington clock which also bears some resemblance to TS's Archipelago range too.
You need somebody who knows more than I do about Iittala. :)

Hi,
it´s been made by Ingridglas in the 70´s, called ´Blockkristall´.  :)

That's good to know, Dirk!  ;D
So, the Ingridglas pieces have a much deeper and chunkier texture than other similar designs from other makers - are they earlier too? I'm a bit ignorant on these matters! :-[

There´s an example in a junk shop nearby with an additional label which reads ´Merry Christmas 1973´,
so time-wise we´re able to place it quite exactly.
The pattern may be a bit deeper than e.g. the Walther ones, but otherwise there are not much differences.
I´m not sure if Ingrid made further patterns, but this particular one was made in wide range - those typical
disc-shaped solifleurs, square versions, candleholders...
Quite useful things to throw after your partner or a robber...  ;D

Bringing truth to the description of "a stunning piece of glass".  ;D
