Post by: bfg on March 27, 2013, 07:38:37 PM
 ???
any ideas on maker / date gratefully received.

I gather its referred to as a garland one due to the outer ring of canes but happy to be corrected on that

and are they complex pastry mould canes?

still learning  ::)

Hi

Yes - mid 19th century. The five sided facetting was used by Clichy, but....it is not unusual for weights to be facetted later to remove damage.  That said, this one looks original to me.

Regarding roses, you are right to hope to see one: I believe that there are slightly more Clichy weights with roses than without. So no rose is actually a bit less common!
