Title: Mdina Tiger Vase
Post by: adam20 on April 08, 2013, 05:53:24 PM
Here is a vase bought today for a good price. Mdina 'Tiger' I believe. Not seen this form before with undulating rim. 6 inches high and heavy. Not etched to base but has sticker. Date 1970/80?

Any info welcomed.

This is later than "Tiger" - it's the new version, now called "Marble". This version has been made for some considerable time, though.
The difference is that the colours are much flatter and the texture of the background is now a creamy off-white with dark brown speckles rather than the frothier bubblier yellowy background created with silver chloride. The wavy rim also indicates a late piece.

Thanks Sue. Marble it is. Did a search and found it here http://dev.mdinaglass.com.mt/index.php/mdina2/90-160.html a five star 'marble' vase still made today.
