Title: Is this a Paul Ysart paperweight?
Post by: flying free on April 08, 2013, 08:19:39 PM

It doesn't say it is, I know that.  I was just idly wondering.
Thanks

Every 'PY' this guy is advertising on eBay looks to me to be a fake.  He has stopped calling them Paul Ysart, and is just pointing out the 'PY' cane. Very wise.

thanks - I thought so but just wanted to check.
I've just read the other thread on dropped py canes regarding discussion on who might have made them.

Another seller has relisted a PY fake, this time described as a "replica". Thats a new one on me!  But at least it put me on my guard.

to me, if I had not known what had been discussed on the board, that listing implies the weight is by Paul Ysart but it contains a 'replica' py cane.  Badly worded listing.  I would have been taken in if I hadn't known.

In the fakes the PY canes letters are in two colours one orangey brown and one red/ pink and all Pauls were red/pink on both letters, they were generally larger filling the cane more. Also Paul's Y was made with a V and an added stem the fakes seem to be one long cane and one short piece added to form the other side of the Y.

Mostly too the quality just isn't there some are very good but the canes and style give them away but this current crop on ebay are pretty poor.

Here's a genuine one that I had.

Having myself bought a fake  last year I looked into this a lot to ensure I wasn't caught again with both the help of this forum and any other sources I could find.

Not forgetting its not the secondry sellers at fault it's the people who made them and the dealers who pumped them out in the 1st place......this subject just won't go away will it,,,,,,,,,,,,
