Title: Larges seated lady flower frog - Schweig Mueller bowl
Post by: Simba on April 14, 2013, 07:16:00 PM
Finally found a bowl that fits this large lady centrepiece and that is the right colour blue.  It's an unusual shade of blue and has been hard to match up. My mother has this bowl in a smaller size with a smaller standing lady figue in. The bowl I believe is by Schweig, Mueller & Co.... could the lady flower frog also be by them too ?

Hi Simba,
to add to the can of worms...
Here is a photo of the bowl that my large blue figurine came with (which I don't have on display with the figure because its a whopping 31cm plus in diameter).
Now I have seen this bowl in a smaller size with a smaller seated lady.
I poked around in my display cabinet and pulled out the smaller figure in the photo. The smaller figure  is an exact scaled down version of the large one. Hands, hair style and length, leg position, feet number of folds in the draped cloth, bark effect on the stump, all the same. Although having said this the mould marks on the smaller figure are in more to the rear instead of prominently forward like the large one.
I wish I could remember where  I have seen the smaller one attributed!
As the set of bowl and large figure were purchased secondhand I can't be 100% sure it is the original bowl but scale and colour are correct to my eye in natural light (photos taken with flash as its a dull day here).

Cheers

The ripples in the bowl are similar those in the September Morn part circle bowl

Yes indeed, quite similar.
although  my large figures bowl doesn't have the centre circular pattern the central pattern is octagonal the same as the others.
Christine do you know the makers name of your September Morn's tray?
My September Morn is a much paler blue than the two seated ladies depicted.

The frog is Sowerby's "Seated Lady" aka "Stump Lady". :)

Thanks Lisa,
Can you tell me how you can identify it as Soweby? As I have at least 5 different ladies seated on stumps in the same pose, but each with slight difference! The largest one, which we were originally discussing is far more peachy/orange than my known sowerby pieces.
