Hiya Liz, welcome to the glass message board. Your bird is not a random soup chicken - it is one with an attitude. It was almost certainly made in Portugal where it is the national emblem.  Or if it was made in China, it was made for the Portugese market.

If you go to Google images and put in "El Gallo de Barcelos" you will get pages of cockerel...

Ivo was pointing you to Google to demonstrate the diversity of cockerels found in Portugal. You need to dig a little deeper to find glass ones... I just googled "Chinese glass cockerel" as per Ivo's hint and came up with this (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=chinese+glass+animals&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=imxwUbv-LcPYPbu0gYAM&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=1258&bih=924#tbm=isch&sa=1&q=chinese+glass+cockerel&oq=chinese+glass+cockerel&gs_l=img.12...24973.26256.0.28128.8.8.0.0.0.0.91.636.8.8.0...0.0...1c.1.9.img.TZABXcht93s&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.45373924,d.ZWU&fp=40c4f5bca02828a4&biw=1258&bih=924) - problem solved?

Hmm, "putting in the skip" is a very responsible approach... I'm sure someone, somewhere would like this - why not just take it down to a charity shop?
