Title: Archimede Seguso - never seen one before nor know what its use is

Hi All, I grabbed this cheaply as it had been around twice on ebay and nobody seemed interested in it.  I think it is opalescent rather than Alabaster.

It seems too big (30cm [12"]) and weighs 1.1kg or 2lb 7ozs to be an ashtray bowl. The centre is too small for a normal bowl. It came with another piece that I did not buy, that's a common AS piece.

Interested if anyone has seen this form and if it is indeed AS.

I always thought these types of shapes were meant to be decorative table centrepieces.

They certainly fill that role well.

The shape reminds me of some Fratelli Toso bowls I've seen, I couldn't say for sure though.  I think some of them were meant to be big fancy ashtrays, but they do make great centrepieces!

I used to have two of those - one in a lovely pale green and the other a pale pnk.  No photos unfortunately.  Would have bought them in the early 80s.

unfortunately, no, Ardy I was too ignorant to try and neither had stickers as afr as I can remember.  I merely commented so you had an idea of age.

My first guess would be Fratelli Toso, too. They did big things like this. I've also seen the unusual yellow color in some of their pieces. I had one of their vases with this color glass before. I can't remember now if it glowed orange under black light. I am thinking that it didn't. If you have a black light, maybe you can try it.
