Title: Powell or S&W or nothing in particular?
Post by: Paul D. on April 17, 2013, 12:13:18 PM
Hello. I'd be grateful for any views about the decanter in the images attached. It looks like the Powell trefoil neck decanter but is not cut around the neck or stopper. The body is more spherical than ovoid. There is a nice circular polished out pontil mark underneath which reminds me of many S&W pieces. Or is this simply one of those rather anonymous pieces that feel that they should have a better pedigree than they actually do? Thank you.

Hello Paul,

This is unlikely to be Powell IMHO.

However, the wide ground and polished pontil does suggest that it could be from the Stourbridge area, but by who is going to be the cnundrum I'm afraid  ;)
