Title: Pressed glass set -- cloud glass -- Walther Oralit?
Post by: rocco on April 27, 2013, 06:10:24 PM
Not my area at all, but I liked these:

I would think a set (bought together, and same colourway) of a bowl (14.5 cm diameter) and a small vase/container (7 cm high); both have a cloudy pattern in purple, the bowl is satinated at the outside, the vase at the inside.
The vase has a mark to the base reading "Latinglas"; unfortunately Google doesn't come up with anything.

I guess Walther "Oralit" is quite probable? And would that date the pieces to the 1930s?
I was looking through the pattern books on Pamela's great site, but not really sucessful.

Any more info very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,
it reads ´Satinglas´ - hence the lack of results probably.  ;D
Satinglas was traded by Paul & Stäglich GmbH Dresden in the 30´s. Here are a few pieces in Pamela´s
collection:
http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/vasen/06853.html
It wasn´t known who made them or assumed P&S might have produced them, but if I remember correctly
a friend of mine wrote an article in ´Der Glasfreund´ on this topic in which he proved that Satinglas was
indeed produced by Walther. Personally I´ve never seen a cloud-glass piece with this mark.
Unfortunately I didn´t read the article yet, because I don´t get that magazine, but I´ll drop him a line
and go asking.

edit: the bowls a Walther ´Orla´  BTW

Dirk, thanks a lot for your profound reply!

Well, I should learn to read properly at last ;D

So, despite of the same decoration not really a set.
But I guess the similarity strongly points towards the "Satinglas" vase being Walther production as well...

Seconded  :D
Here's a catalogue of distributors  Paul&Stäglich, Dresden  (http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Paul-Staeglich-19.186.0.html) which Hans contributed to glas-musterbuch.de - year unknown but several patterns known as Walther and other Saxonia manufacturers.
