You know when something arrives and it just far far exceeds expectations? this was it for me. The description was scarce, the size wasn't on it and the picture was bad so I really didn't know what shape exactly was going to turn up. And I've been hunting for a plain, undecorated amethyst iridescent vase with prunts for a good long while now to sit in with my other plain iridescent vases with prunts.
I couldn't believe my luck when it arrived, very large piece, undamaged, all in one piece and measuring 6 3/4" (17.5cm) high by 7 3/4" (about 19.5cm) wide. Lovely iridescence and a superb blue amethyst colour rather than red. It has an integral curved foot, lots of old base wear and the super large prunts with indented marks in them (I don't have any with prunts like it), four in total . The rim is cut polished and bevelled. I'm so pleased with this one.
I thought it might be Fritz Heckert, but to be honest I have absolutely no idea....would love to know, but I honestly don't care :) it's one of 'those' pieces for me ;D

Does it whisper "Loetz"?
-
It does Ivo :) but I thought that might be asking too much ;D
I need to investigate more.

Another route to explore might be Heckert cyprus-glass (Zypernglas / Zypern-Glas).
I´ve only read the term here though:

Colour and style look related... :)
edit: just realised you already suggested Heckert yourself... note to myself: read first,
then reply. ;D

Just checked. The term ´Cypern´ (Heckert obviously used an older form of that name) is
also mentioned in ´Das böhmische Glas´ and - as I understand it - applies to all the
iridised pieces, additionally decorated (like the Max Rade or Ludwig Sütterlin decors) or
not.

Thanks Dirk :) Which DMG band are you looking at please? I don't have band V and I think the Heckert info is in that one isn't it?
From reading Pressglas Korrespondenz it calls Bronze cypern 'Blaues' and shows a blue example under the description, so I guess it must be Bronze Cypern? It's purple but is a real blue purple colour glass - it appears to match all the blue iridescent Heckert's I've found in colour (apart from their Azure blue of course).
Shape wise there are no direct matches but there are parts that are similar to others I've found, however, I've not found a single Heckert with prunts?
Loetz did make some glass for Heckert. I assumed this Cypern range was one that Heckert made, however iirc from another thread, I've not managed to pin that down exactly. Does it say in the book that Heckert made them? or just that they designed them do you know?
For example this http://antikes-glas.de/product_info.php?cPath=47_56&products_id=188&osCsid=ea61cbe14f4027e6792c98e43e1d3bc9
undecorated gourd shape is I think the same colour as mine but the same shape as Christine's. I can't recall whether we managed to pin down that Christine's was made by Heckert or whether that was still unknown (i.e. Loetz or maybe Josephinenhutte made it for them perhaps?)

Yes, it´s band V. Not much information given, but there´s some in the Neuwirth link.
He says they were made by Josephinenhütte, according to the book by Stefania
Zelasko. I think he´s highly reliable and he´s been quite helpful with a request
I had some time ago... those spiral-pattern WMF bowls, you may have heard of... ;D
´Das böhmische Glas´ shows a few models, but none with prunts... There was
an immense number of pictures from the Passau museum somewhere online, but I
forgot to bookmark the link - nothing official, someone private.... ???
-
Oh thanks Dirk! So, designed by Heckert produced by Josephinenhutte? excellent :)
Yes he has some wonderful pieces on there and I do recall the spiral bowls ;D
I have the link to the Passau pieces (I'll try and find it in a mo and link it) but there were none that were a match and none with prunts. I think there were two blue ones decorated, on the top shelf in that pic - they seem to be the same iridescent range and the same colour as mine iirc. I've scoured the net, the nearest I could find was on the Neuwirth link, where at least they were plain and the same colour if not the same shape.
I did find two decorated ones on the Gilded Curio site where there are elements of both vases that appear to be similar, but again, no prunts. The prunts are gorgeous. Handmade all different where someone has applied the pad and the indented them with a spiked sharp object or indeed made the holes one by one, a bit like pricking a biscuit with a fork for decoration before baking ;D

Dirk the link is here
Mod: Link removed as content changed to inappropriate site
and this is the nearest Heckert shape I have found (also would look good in my collection ;D )

Dirk's link shows a signed one just like mine but in the purple

yes, I realised afterwards but I'd just not got time to let you know if you weren't reading the thread. So a definite id :)

Thanks for the link, m!
Did I miss Christine´s topic? Was it longer ago? :-\
-
lovely find M I can see why you were so chuffed ;D
-
thanks Mel :)
Dirk, no you didn't - discussion on Christine's vase got rolled into my thread on small gold iridescent vase which I've just bumped, during a discussion of the iridescent finish and Loetz Olympia. We had worked out it was a Fritz Heckert shape but weren't sure if it was made by Fritz Heckert, or by Loetz or Josephinenhutte. The information from Stefano's book confirms it was made by Josephinenhutte :)
I have found a couple of FH vases with prunts, one with lion head prunts and another with a different type of prunt but none the same as mine so far.
I'm wasn't sure why the decor was called 'bronze' cypern when the vase is blue, but the iridescence is bronze coloured so I suppose it must refer to the iridescent finish rather than the base colour of the glass?

bingo!
This one sold through Fischer's auctions but I can't find it on a Fischer's search - it must have sold before they started putting archive auctions on or perhaps they only go back so many years and this was before it.

it's the same shape and it has the prunts but different decor :) It's pale green with enamel and signed in enamel on the base F. H. 465/6
sold 17 October 2009 so before their records are online for.

amendment - it is signed F.H. 465/6 1681 and is dated to 1900.

Great news, m. :)

Thanks Dirk - It is nice to get a definite id on something ;D
