Title: jug and fruit bowl ID
Post by: Bryanhas on May 08, 2013, 09:12:14 PM
Hi all. New member- 1st post- please be gentle ! I have these 2 items which I am planning to offer on ebay. Ideally I would like to know something about it before I list it. can anyone comment on its origins ? Having flicked through some earlier postings, I have a feeling China may get mentioned !

My thanks in advance for good or bad comments, Bryan

Hi Bryan,
welcome to the board!

I don't recognize your pieces, but they don't look Chinese at first sight...

The style reminds me of items made by Tarbeklaas, Estonia, but I couldn't find a real match.
If you google "Tarbeklaas vaas" you will see a fair amount of their output; some more in >> this link (http://www.eantiik.com/products/klaas/tarbeklaas).

BTW, pics taken against a neutral (white or grey) background, and base pics might help to narrow it down :)

Michael

Hello Rocco, many thanks for the comment. I did have a look at the people you suggested but couldnt find anything to compare. Yes, sorry about the pictures. I did take them against a white background but under artificial light so it didnt do them justice. Next time they will be better quality. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. rgds Bryan

Hi Bryan and Welcome to the Forum!! I believe these are Chribska current production. Out of interest did you buy them on the Lower Addiscombe Rd? I think there is a link to these somewhere will try to find it for you.

                         Warmest Wishes,

                                John

Hello John, many thanks for the welcome and for the info. I have to say how impressed I have been in a short space of time not only with the wealth of knowledge you guys clearly have but also your willingness to share it.

I only saw your message late last night as I was on my way to bed. Your comment about Lower Addiscombe made me laugh !
I didn't get it there but from a guy in Penge but I think he has links to the Addiscombe area, so it may be the same pieces your refer to. Did you seen them there ? I bought the 2 pieces along with 6 paperweights, 2 of which I subsequently destroyed by washing them in hot water- a lesson I have now learnt not to do again. Combined they didn't cost a lot each so I took a chance on them. I listed the jug /bowl and a couple of P/weights yesterday on ebay, so at least I can now put a name to it.

Again many thanks and I would be interested to hear more about the Addiscombe angle

Rgds Bryan

Hi Bryan, Glad to be of assistance! As you've discovered this is a very friendly forum with members who are always willing to help and have a breadth and depth of knowledge that astounds me even after all the time I've been a member!

I was offered two pieces EXACTLY the same as yours for less than a tenner about 3-4 weeks ago but declined.

                                         Warmest Wishes,

                                            John
