Hi Folks,
I helped a guy in Canada, who posted this weight as Clichy, to identify it as Bohemian. We kept in touch and it just sold for £3,564.90. Now it is a nice weight but with some damage. Has a centre Eagle picture cane and a ring of Dog canes but I'm mystified as to why it went for such a sum.
Help please.

Hi Tony
I think the answer is that it is a very nice, rare Silesian paperweight from the Josephinenhutte (strictly speaking not Bohemian, as the glass works was a little way over the border in Silesia) and that a complete ring of matching silhouette canes around the centre eagle cane makes it most unusual. The best Silesian and Bohemian paperweights have been going up sharply in price recently - I saw a relatively modest example make nearly £2000 at auction last year.

hi, was browsing for something else but thought I would comment.
I had a very similar one last year, with 3 dogs or slender foals as some describe them, and the Prussian eagle (which has one head)as Silesia was part of Prussia.(now Polish as from ww2) Bohemia, as was Venice, was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and had the 2 headed eagle, which helps with identification.
research and publications in the past 10 years or so may be the main reason for the hike in prices. Previously, I believe Bohemia/Silesia was something of a black hole paperweight wise. sold mine for similar sum at specialist auction. (needed money for a long holiday!) my info comes from lots of research made to identify my pwt. bought mine thinking it could be st Louis and had a nice surprise. hope you find one too. regards Dudley
