Hi All,
A friend of mine in Colorado has just bought this superb Islington weight, complete with an IGW cane, and sent me a picture so I thought I would share this with you.

He must have deep pockets, lucky chap!
I'm assuming it's the one that went at auction recently ...

Hi.
Yes - it is the sixteenth example known. The auction room contacted me for verification before the sale - I would love to have had deep enough pockets!

what price did it go for?

I wish I had shorter pockets - or longer arms !!

Hi Ray.
I think it was a hammer price of £6,500, but I may be a few hundred pounds out.

Is this Islington Glass Works in London, or somewhere else please? Just curious...
-
Hi Anne
It was in Birmingham, near Fiveways. It was owned by a man called Rice Harris. The street it was built in was called Islington Terrace, to give it a bit of cachet!

Ahhh thanks Alan, that's handy to know. I'm looking at the London one in terms of pressed glass, hence my question. No connection between them then.

document on Soho Glassworks and a reference to Islington Glass Works here on page 8( also info on John Walsh Walsh) I've not read the whole document but was looking up Rice Harris re something else.

Hi m.
I have come across that document, and had hoped they might have found some 19th century glass fragments, but no joy (only 20th century). But there is the possibility that some millefiori fragments turn up somewhere in a future archaeological investigation of a Birmingham area glass works - that would be fascinating!

I find these investigations fascinating to read :)
I wonder if Frank's seen this one - might draw his attention to it just in case.
