Title: help to I.D this vase please
Post by: millarart on May 22, 2013, 10:26:43 AM
came across this vase in a charity shop and would like to know if anyone can provide me with info on maker , age etc, the decoration includes acorns which are almost 3D as they sit so high off the glass.
           thanks

Well Moser made glass with acorns on it.  It doesn't look as though it is the quality of Moser though, but I could be proved wrong (that odd finish on the base, the colour, the enamelling).
It could be also that all the pale yellow little leafy bits all over it are actually supposed to be gilded but it's all worn off.  The leaves look as though they might also have been gilded and that's worn off.
To be honest it looks like someone tried to copy a Moser vase to me, but again... I could be wrong and it could be the real thing but just a bit careworn  :-X

It's a nice enough thing of its sort - but it isn't screaming any great quality at me.  ???

I wouldn't have bought it either.
(well, I might have been tempted because of the acorns, but... I might still have had to leave it)

I'd have been a little tempted - but only if it glowed green under UV and if it had a matched mirror-image pair.

lol, yeah it was the acorns that done it for me  ;D, just thought they were unusal, but thats as far as it went for me, still its interesting to find out about pieces like this, looking at it im amazed it wasnt in a charity shop a long time ago, but everyone has different tastes,  ;),  now had it been a Monart vase sitting on the shelve at that price it would already be sitting with all my others by now

Looks like a typical Bohemian shape in an unusual colour with an unusual decor. Looks to me like the yellow should be gilded

might have been, but to be honest if you handle gilding that often and wash and wipe the vase enough over many years, it will eventually wear off.
