I just bought this Dancing girl or Ballerina on Ebay thinking it was Jobling but now that I have it in my hands I am not so sure. Was this piece copied by other makers ....perhaps recently...... as this one of mine doesn't appear to have much age to it. Also on the sellers picture and description he says the base is cracked but when this one arrived it hasn't any cracks ??? There are some stress marks and a pouring ripple on the inner ring of the base but no wear to the base. The colour too doesn't seem a Jobling blue. To be fair the seller didn't say it was Jobling. :-\

This pattern was also produced in Czechoslovakia, I can't remember which maker, but may have been Rosice. There was a marked one reported a while back and it is also shown in a catalogue but i don't have my reference material to hand easily.
I'd agree that yours is not a typical Jobling colour and would suspect it is a Czech version.
As far as I know, the moulding on the Czech version is virtually identical to the early style Jobling dancing girl so it is very hard to distinguish between them. One example I handled in a possibly Jobling colourway lacked the inner ring on the underside of the base though there may have been different versions produced. The later Jobling production is easy to identify as the mould was modified and the figure has a shorter skirt.
Edited to add: Here's the earlier thread on the marked example, positively identified as Rosice: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,8391.10.html

:) thanks for that Steven...that would explain it. Still a lovely girl!! ;D

Think I just confirmed that mine is a Rosice :) Found her on my Sklo CD Rom and it gave her height as 19cms which she almost is. In my Jobling catalogue her height is given as 7 inches (17.8cms) which she definitely isn't. Putting her next to a blue Rosice bowl I have, the colour is the same. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Steven :D

Hi Simba
Do you have a pic of the bowl please? Also may I know the measurement of this figure? Cheers..Brenton

This is the bowl by Rosice which has a matching vase http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-17004
The ballerina I have measures 18.8 cms the base is 8.5 cms

Thanks for the link.
Quite often I see this figure sitting on similar style bowl (but without the peg).
Cheers :)

Thanks for the picture of the bowl I will look out for one now. The drawing in the catalogue is not very clear much better to see a photo. The only info is that it measures 23 cms. At the moment she has to sit in my Walther Wilhelm bowl :D

Hi Guys,
Was doing a little research on a 'Dancing Girl' flower frog and bowl I recently 'acquired' before listing it on eBay and same across this discussion which has what looks like exactly the same figure and bowl. I'm wondering a) if there has been any progress in deciding whether the figure is Jobling or Rosice and b) who the bowl is by (see piccies of mine below).
As always, many thanks in anticipation. 8) John.
PS Have just checked the size of my girl and she's about 7 3/8" tall (just under 19cm) so I guess that makes her Rosice?

Well just to add more confusion to this post I recently had a discussion on this topic in a facebook group with Sue from Black Poppy website and in the end our conclusion was this.........
Further investigation, thanks to Sue, has determined that this is by Jobling not Rosice as first thought...Differences to look out for are:
Hairline - Rosice one appears to have a wave of hair on top of head which appears as a lump on some moulds.
Dress - No straps on the Rosice one Jobling has faint straps more visible at the back.
Waistline - Rosice one has a ruffled waist whilst the Jobling has a V shaped waist
Base Rim - Rosice one is single rim base whilst the Jobling is double rim base.
Although I must say I am still not sure about the colour of mine being a Jobling colour blue it seems very strong colour compared to the more pastel Jobling colours ??

Many thanks for the information Angela and the work you've put into getting it ~ very interesting and helpful. The blue colour in my picture of the figure is stronger/brighter than it is in reality ~ the colour of the bowl is more accurate and similar to other pieces of Jobling which I've seen on the internet.
Any idea if the bowl is likely to be original to the frog and therefore by Jobling too?
Thanks again, John.

I have not seen that bowl in the Jobling catalogue I have and think it is more likely to be Czech in origin. On the Black Poppy site Sue has it as unknown. http://www.black-poppy.co.uk/Miscellaneous_&_Unknown_-_Centrepieces_&_Frogs/photo2416.htm
In the Rosice catalogue the bowl shown with the Ballerina figure has quite plain panels (that is no pattern on the panels like yours) with a scalloped rim.

Hi
I was at an antique centre in Stamford earlier this year and saw the same ballerina and bowl in green.I was always used to seeing the ballerina bowl in either a Jobling fircone bowl or flower bowl so it had me stumped. The green was exact between figure and bowl.
Again makes me wonder if its Rosice? Do you have a pic of the Rosice page you just mentioned please?
Many thanks Nige
