Title: Who can help me impress my older sister?

My sister sent me these pictures of a piece of glass she unearthed and asked me what it was? Before I tell her that I thought it was an inkwell, minus stopper/cap, I thought I should check in with experts.
It is 3.5 inches high, top diameter of 4 inches and 3 inch base.
She tells me that the glass looks old 'cause it isn't crystal clear when you look through - it almost distorts!!??
Please can you help?

Looks like an above average inkwell, missing nothing. Possibly, it was originally in a stand or fitted case.
